This substantial renovation and addition to a mid-century modern home is nestled on a stunning lot with an array of trees spread throughout, offering a perfect blend of modern luxury and natural beauty. Designed to create an outdoor oasis, the home features a unique courtyard layout that provides privacy and a seamless connection to the surrounding landscape. This courtyard leads to a breathtaking indoor pool, where large doors open to allow for a consistent blend of indoor-outdoor spaces, enhancing the feeling of tranquility and respite.
One of the most unique features of this renovation is the primary ensuite addition, which is elevated on piers. This design gives the space a treehouse-like quality, allowing residents to feel immersed in the natural environment, nestled among the trees. The piers allow the floor level to remain uniform across the transition from existing floor assembly to new construction. The guest suite addition is located on the second floor and includes a private lounge and kitchenette. This suite overlooks a two-story basketball court, offering the best seats in the house for entertaining and enjoying the action below.
The exterior facade of the home is both innovative and elegant, featuring an oval halo cut in the roof that allows sunlight to filter through to the main living space without disrupting the impressively large roof overhang at the front of the home. The design cleverly incorporates bricks reclaimed from the original home, serving as an anchor point for the reimagined home design. The use of cedar soffit accents and black aluminum composite material (ACM) panels, combined with massive windows, enhance the home’s modern aesthetic while respecting its mid-century roots.
This project highlights the potential of transforming a mid-century modern footprint into a contemporary masterpiece, seamlessly integrating new features such as the indoor basketball court while maintaining a connection to its original character and the surrounding natural beauty.
