Going ‘Art Moderne’ in the Kootenays

Art Moderne {or streamline moderne} dates back to the 30’s, and even earlier for commercial, institutional, and industrial construction … Its flavour is seen even in todays modern / contemporary residential architecture. Stripping a structure down to its barest of simplicity – the goal was affordability originally; but created a vibe people are still drawn to, to this day.

Below are a few concept model images of a home design we’re working on for our clients in Nelson, BC – they will be building this summer. The main abode features three bedrooms and two bathrooms – along with a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom rental suite for income.

White stucco, black aluminum windows, horizontal window and railing lines – and a bold burnt orange entry door create the overall clean appeal for this new home.
